Joyful Download Panda


Joyful Download Panda (also referred to as JDP) is a recursive site-download extension for the Firefox browser. It enables users of Firefox to download either a webpage or an entire website for offline viewing with a few clicks of the button. JPD offers a nice graphical user interface to the commandline website downloader wget.

For Firefox users, left-click on the link to install the extension. Firefox may warn you that it stopped a site from installing an extension. If you trust our extension, you may instruct Firefox to edit the trusted sites for installation, adding this site.

Other browsers will ask to save to the harddisk, and can later be installed by dragging and dropping it into a Firefox window.

    Technical Questions:

  1. Question: How do I get JDP?
    Answer: You have two options:
    • One is to start up Firefox and link the link above. It will prompt you to install. Confirm and restart Firefox. Installation is now complete.
    • The second option is to right-click the link above in Firefox (or just left-click in another browser) and save it somewhere on your harddrive. Then open Firefox if it is not already opened and drag and drop the file just downloaded into the Firefox window. A prompt will ask you to install. Confirm and restart Firefox. Installation is now complete.

  2. Question: What version of Firefox is required for JDP to function?
    Answer: Version 0.10.0 or higher. We highly recommend you use the most recent version of Firefox, however.

  4. Question: How do I download a webpage?
    Answer: Open Firefox and go to a webpage. Right-click in the window and select "Download web page" from the menu. Set the options to your liking and click "Start".

  5. Question: How do I download a website?
    Answer: Open Firefox and go to a webpage. Right-click in the window and select "Download web site" from the menu. Set the options to your liking and click "Start".

  6. Question: How do I change the default settings for JDP?
    Answer: Go to Tools --> Extensions. In the dialog, select Joyful Download Panda (if it is not there, you don't have JDP installed!). Click options. The options that are shown in the new dialog are the default options that can be set.

    JDP automatically uses the Firefox download directory as the default place to save downloads. So to change JDP's default choice, change your Firefox download directory.
